At-Home Testosterone Test Kit

What is Testosterone?

Testosterone is an androgen, or male sex hormone, which is produced by both males and females. However, more testosterone is produced in males than females. In fact, women’s bodies typically have 1/10th to 1/20th of the amount of testosterone found in males’ bodies.

Testosterone plays an important role in both men’s and women’s bodies. In men, it supports:

  • Distribution of body fat
  • Bone density
  • Hair growth
  • Mood
  • Muscle growth
  • Sperm production
  • Red blood cell production
  • Sex drive

In women, testosterone helps with:

  • Bone health
  • Breast health
  • Fertility
  • Sex drive
  • Regulation of the menstrual cycle

In males, most testosterone is produced in the testicles, whereas in females, testosterone is produced by the ovaries and adrenal glands.

What is a Testosterone Test?

Many people choose to test their testosterone levels at home rather than in a doctor’s office. Why? An at-home testosterone test kit is only $79, whereas getting tested in a doctor’s office could cost hundreds of dollars, depending on your insurance coverage.

Testing at home is also far more convenient. The entire at-home test can be completed in a matter of minutes. But if you get tested at a doctor’s office, it may take hours if you account for the travel time and time spent waiting.

If you choose to take an at-home test, your results will be available within 2 to 5 days. But if you are tested in an office, it could take over a week to hear back from your doctor regarding your results.

These are some of the many reasons why at-home tests are preferred by so many people. Testing your testosterone level has never been easier. Here’s how the myLAB Box at-home testosterone test kit works:

  • Order a testing kit from the myLABBox.com website. Shipping is free. Your testing kit will be sent in discreet packaging so no one will know what’s being delivered.
  • Follow the instructions in the testing kit to collect a saliva sample. Everything you need to collect this sample will be included in your testing kit.
  • Use the pre-paid envelope inside your testing kit to mail your saliva sample to a lab for testing.
  • Wait for results. Your results will be available within 2 to 5 days. You will receive an email with a link that will take you to a secure online portal where you can view your results.
  • Schedule a free phone consultation with a physician to discuss your results.

That’s all it takes to test your testosterone levels from the comfort of your home!

Included: 1 Testosterone test kit, and a pre-addressed return envelope (Postage Paid)

What do I need to do to prepare for the test?

You don’t need any special preparations for an at home testosterone levels test. Your health care provider will tell you if you need to stop taking any medicines before you have this test.

DO NOT stop or change your medicines without talking to your provider first.

FAQ about Testosterone Test

Understanding your results

A normal testosterone level range for men is 49-185 picograms per milliliter. A normal testosterone level for women can fall anywhere between 10 and 61 picograms per milliliter. But this “normal level” for men and women will vary depending on a number of factors, including your age.

An abnormally low level of testosterone could indicate chronic illness, problems with the pituitary gland (does not produce normal amounts of its hormones), low thyroid function, benign tumor of the pituitary cells that produce too much of the hormone prolactin, and too much body fat (obesity).

An abnormally high level of testosterone could indicate congenital adrenal hyperplasia, medications, or a tumor in the testicles or adrenal glands.

  • If your results are not normal, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have a medical condition needing treatment. An abnormal level of testosterone can also be caused by certain medications, lifestyle factors, and age. That’s why if you have questions about your results, it’s best to talk to your health care provider.
  • If your results are abnormal, schedule a free phone consultation with a physician through myLAB Box. During this consultation, the physician will answer your questions, address your concerns, and help you understand what your results mean.

It is also recommended that you take a copy of your lab test to your health care provider for further discussion of the significance of your abnormal test. Your health care provider may need to perform additional diagnostic tests to determine the underlying cause of your abnormal testosterone level.

There are several different ways to treat abnormal levels of testosterone. Sometimes, treating an abnormal level of testosterone simply involves adjusting your medication, losing weight, or making healthy lifestyle changes.

But treating abnormal testosterone levels isn’t always that simple. If your testosterone is too low, your doctor may recommend testosterone replacement therapy. However, this treatment is typically only recommended if the symptoms of low testosterone are interfering with your daily life.

There is no treatment for high testosterone levels in men. However, a high testosterone level can put men at a greater risk of serious health conditions, including high cholesterol, heart attacks, cardiovascular disease, and strokes. For this reason, it is important to work with a doctor to monitor your testosterone levels and maintain your heart health.

What are the symptoms of abnormal Testosterone levels?

Maintaining a normal level of testosterone is important for your overall health and wellness. But some men have testosterone levels that are either too high or too low. Some of the symptoms of high testosterone levels in males include:

  • Acne
  • Aggressive behavior
  • Excessive body hair
  • High blood pressure
  • High sex drive
  • Infertility
  • Mood swings

Some of the symptoms of low testosterone levels in men include:

  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Loss of body hair
  • Low sex drive
  • Low energy
  • Weight gain
  • Mood swings
  • Reduced testicle size
  • Difficulty sleeping

If you are a man who is experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s in your best interest to take an at-home testosterone test to check your testosterone levels.

What causes abnormal Testosterone?

There are a number of reasons why a man’s testosterone levels may be too low or too high.

Testosterone production increases significantly during puberty, but will begin to drop later in life.

Men at mid-life are just as susceptible to an age-related drop in hormone production as their female counterparts. Andropause, the so-called “male menopause,” signifies the retreat of the key male hormone testosterone. As a man ages, his body naturally makes less testosterone. In fact, by the time a man is in his mid-forties, testosterone levels can be down by 40%.

Lifestyle factors such as excessive stress, weight gain and lack of exercise can lower levels even further – impacting stamina, drive and virility. Men tend to notice a subtle downward shift in strength and energy first, followed by lack of enthusiasm for life’s challenges like work and competition. A man may also lose interest in sexual activity altogether.
